Summer Issue Highlights Delta’s Voice for Duck Hunters, Local Impact

It seems unthinkable that duck hunting could come under threat at the famed Susquehanna Flats, but that’s exactly what happened last year, when a Maryland municipality annexed a popular waterfowling hotspot. In the Summer Issue of Delta Waterfowl magazine, an all-new “Voice of the Duck Hunter” column details action taken by The Duck Hunters Organization to save a historic hunting area.

As is often the case when Delta steps in to protect hunter access, the organization was assisted by one of its nearly 4,000 dedicated volunteers. Speaking of, be sure to check out the six finalists for Delta’s 2018 Volunteer of the Year profiled in the Summer Issue. Each would sure like your vote! You also won’t want to miss the feature story, “Local Impact,” which highlights the remarkable work — from boosting duck production to introducing kids to duck hunting — by volunteer-led Delta chapters across North America.

Other key stories featured in the Summer Issue include the Delta Waterfowl Decoy Hunt, a thrilling Columbia River quest for prime drake wigeon over hand-carved decoys — look for the one-of-a-kind blocks in the live auction at your next local chapter event banquet. In “Driven to Hunt,” you’ll discover parallels between retrievers and the waterfowlers who love them. You’ll also relish an unexpectedly epic mixed-bag duck hunt in Tennessee, learn to spot terrain features that will funnel puddle ducks over your spread, and after reading “Cajun Country Geese,” you’ll want to point your truck toward Louisiana this fall. Finally, you’ll witness how Delta searches for duck nests to unlock waterfowl mysteries, as captured through the lens of senior photographer Fred Greenslade.

As always, the Summer Issue carries a full slate of informative and entertaining columns such as Duck Dogs, Shotgunning, Strategies and Duckology to help you get the most from your waterfowl season.

The only way to receive Delta Waterfowl magazine is to join The Duck Hunters Organization. If you are a member, thank you for your support. The Summer Issue will arrive soon!
