A Steady Dog

A “steady” dog is paramount to a safe hunt.
Emphasize steadiness in your training by consistently denying your dog a retrieve if she breaks or even simply flinches before commanded. Enforce steadiness while hunting with an e-collar or quick-release tether. And never shoot if a dog prematurely exits the blind — no duck is worth risking a retriever’s safety.
