Growing up in the farmlands of western Washington, Stephen Sowell joined The Duck Hunters Organization with a perpetual passion for sharing his love of hunting and the outdoors.
He graduated with a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Mary, which led to a career that has included roles with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game as well as a previous stint as Delta Waterfowl’s R3 coordinator before a brief return to Alaska with his family.
“I am most passionate about Delta’s University Hunting Program,” he said. “In my opinion, the UHP is one of the most impactful programs we have because it not only serves as a hunter recruitment tool, but it is also informing the views of the next generation of wildlife managers. The seeds we plant today—by educating future wildlife managers—will have a positive impact on hunting throughout North America for the next generation and beyond.”
When not working on Delta’s R3 programs, you can find Sowell hunting, fly fishing, or camping with his wife Jessamyn and their five kids.
“My favorite way to spend a weekend is to recreate outdoors in our public lands, preferably hunting waterfowl,” he said.
He also enjoys spending time with his black Lab, Tank, and claims that if he had one last day to go hunting, he would spend it on the beach, eyes primed for a passing harlequin.
