Very late brood
Today I made an excursion up to southern Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan.
The SW corner of Manitoba is looking good – quite wet. Unfortunately, southern Saskatchewan is still darn dry. They had good August rain, but the ground gobbled up that water. Virtually no wetlands holding water.
Saw several late (only 2.5 weeks old) Mallard broods in MB. They won’t possibly be flying until near the end of September. That reflects June and July rains. That dedicated mama is going to molt very late.
