Gray Partridge

Hungarian Partridge – officially Gray Partridge – were introduced from Europe in the 1900s. They range across the PPR but are more common in the dry prairies of the western PPR, like here in western Saskatchewan. They lay very large clutches and can explode in numbers in good years.

These are two young birds. It was real tempting to shoot them with a 20g. rather than 400 mm lens – delicious!
