Still in Saskatchewan and had a fun morning hunt for Sandhill Cranes.

Several birds showed that replacing the flight feathers is a big deal for cranes.

This bird had replaced the inner 6 primaries, but the outer 4 (left – faded brown) primaries are at least one year old.

Molt is a major energy expense for birds with big wings.
