Wisconsin Sandhill Crane Bill Passes Assembly

Delta Waterfowl supported legislation would establish a hunting season

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — Wisconsin representatives voted to pass Assembly Bill 117 earlier today, a measure that would establish a hunting season for sandhill cranes in Wisconsin.

Delta Waterfowl, along with our partners, has been a leading supporter of this legislation for years — from supporting the creation of the 2024 Legislative Council Study Committee, to staff testifying in favor of a sandhill crane season during committee hearings in both the Assembly and the Senate, and bringing volunteers to the capitol to rally in support of the bill.

“We appreciate all the assembly members who supported this bill and advanced it,” said Cyrus Baird, Delta’s vice president of government affairs. “Establishing a sandhill crane hunt has been a multi-year priority for Delta members and volunteers and the main priority of our policy work in Wisconsin this year. We’re excited to see a sandhill crane season get one step closer to becoming a reality.”

The bill moves to the Wisconsin Senate, where Delta will encourage its members in the Badger State to reach out to their senators in support through the Duck Hunters Action Alert System.

“We appreciate Rep. Paul Tittl for his leadership on this legislation, and Speaker Robin Vos for giving the bill time on the floor before the Assembly adjourned, and we are hopeful for a favorable outcome in the Senate,” Baird added.
