Delta Waterfowl Receives Wildlife Habitat Canada Grants

New funding advances nesting structures and hunter recruitment programs

DELTA MARSH, MANITOBA — Delta Waterfowl is pleased to announce the continued support of Wildlife Habitat Canada through $110,000 in grant funding to bolster key conservation and hunter recruitment efforts throughout the country.

The investment includes $50,000 to support Hen House maintenance and expansion in critical waterfowl breeding areas and $60,000 for Delta’s HunteR3 programming, including First Hunt activities and the University Hunting Program.

“Wildlife Habitat Canada is an invaluable partner in the effort to sustain both waterfowl populations and waterfowl hunting traditions across Canada,” said Joel Brice, chief conservation officer for Delta Waterfowl. “Their generous funding ensures we can continue deploying Hen Houses to support duck production, while also helping new hunters experience their first days afield.”

Hen Houses are one of Delta’s most effective tools for producing ducks. WHC’s funding will support the maintenance or replacement of 2,400 Hen Houses, along with the installation of 200 new nest structures across target landscapes in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Delta Waterfowl maintains 14,325 Hen Houses in key breeding areas for mallards, including 6,180 in Manitoba, 2,180 in Alberta, and 1,820 in Saskatchewan.

Additionally, Wildlife Habitat Canada’s investment in Delta’s HunteR3 initiatives will help facilitate 27 First Hunt events across Canada during the next year. These events provide new hunters with a mentored introduction to waterfowl hunting and conservation. Funding also supports the expansion and ongoing delivery of the University Hunting Program, which introduces college students to waterfowl hunting and its importance to wildlife management.

Delta Waterfowl appreciates Wildlife Habitat Canada for its continuing partnership and investment in the future of ducks and duck hunters.
