First Hunt

Delta Waterfowl's First Hunt is the world's largest waterfowl hunter recruitment program. Since its inception, Delta chapter volunteers have introduced more than 90,000 people to duck and goose hunting. Delta chapters across the United States and Canada annually host more than 250 events reaching more than 12,000 participants.

University Hunting Program

Hunting plays a critical role in waterfowl conservation–but it was discovered that at least 70 percent of university wildlife management students have never hunted and have no connection to hunting in their families or social circles. The University Hunting Program provides students who will be the wildlife managers and decision-makers of tomorrow an opportunity to experience hunting and learn why it's a primary tool in the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. It's Delta's intent that these students will continue hunting, but even if they don't, they will appreciate its importance.

Submit Your First Duck Story

No matter your age, bagging your first duck is an exciting moment. Delta proudly presents new duck hunters with a certificate to commemorate this important milestone. Send us a short story detailing your experience, submit a high-quality image, and keep an eye out for your photo to be featured on the Delta website or in the organization’s award-winning Delta Waterfowl magazine. Submissions can be mailed to Delta’s headquarters or submitted online.

Submit Your Mentor Story

Delta Waterfowl launched its Mentor Recognition Program to raise awareness about the decline in waterfowl hunter numbers and the resulting impact of a diminishing voice. The program celebrates and recognizes, with certificates and prizes, the efforts of mentors who take new waterfowl hunters afield. First Duck is a companion program which awards a special certificate to hunters who shoot their first duck or goose.

Defending the Hunt

Delta Waterfowl serves as the “voice of the duck hunter” throughout North America. We continue to vigorously defend threats to duck hunting opportunities and access anytime, anywhere. Our legion of active members and volunteers alert Delta staff to issues that pose a risk to duck hunting, and we take action – whether at a local, state, provincial or national level – to repel these threats.
