Delta Waterfowl is The Duck Hunters Organization, a leading conservation group founded in 1911. We work to produce ducks through intensive management programs and conservation of breeding duck habitat. Delta conducts vital waterfowl research and promotes and protects the continuing tradition of waterfowl hunting in North America.

Delta’s international headquarters is located in Bismarck, North Dakota. Currently, our dedicated team consists of almost 100 employees, of which about half work within our headquarters office and the other half work remotely throughout the US and Canada. Our organization has experienced tremendous growth over the last few years, and this is expected to continue. JOB SUMMARY
The Policy External Affairs Manager is the champion of our organization’s ongoing public policy work for the benefit of ducks, duck hunters and Delta’s mission. This individual will play a vital role in shaping the messaging, storytelling and communicating the work of the policy team and demonstrating the value proposition that translates into for ducks and duck hunters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Research, write, and edit high-impact communications including press releases, digital media posts, advocacy campaign content, and messaging materials that align with the organization’s mission, tone, and brand guidelines. Apply editorial judgment and strategic thinking to ensure alignment with broader campaign goals.
- Translate complex policy and legislative issues into accessible, compelling narratives tailored to diverse audiences, including stakeholders, donors, policymakers, and the public. Demonstrate mastery in framing nuanced subjects to drive engagement, action, and understanding.
- Collaborate with the communications, marketing, and policy teams to manage message alignment and content dissemination across multiple channels—social media, website, newsletters, magazines, press alerts, and action campaigns—ensuring consistency in voice and timeliness of policy communications.
- Actively contribute to policy team initiatives through regular participation in bi-weekly meetings, coordination calls, and ongoing collaboration to surface timely policy insights, amplify advocacy efforts, and generate relevant communications materials.
- Uphold brand tone, AP style, and sector-specific editorial standards in all written materials. Conduct quality assurance and peer reviews to maintain consistency and elevate messaging clarity.
- Work in conjunction with the MARCOM team to effectively monitor and evaluate media engagement metrics, including pickup rates, social reach, and sentiment analysis. Use data-driven insights to inform future communication strategies and optimize performance.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and influencers. Facilitate media outreach and assist in targeted distribution strategies to amplify campaign impact and organizational visibility.
- Provide additional support as needed, including assisting in rapid response messaging or special content development projects.
- Other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of PR experience, preferably in conservation, outdoor recreation, or nonprofit sectors.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills.
- Familiarity with the duck hunting culture is a major plus.
- Comfortable navigating media interviews and public speaking opportunities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and listen. The employee requires dexterity in using telephone, computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and other office equipment. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and navigate stairs. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 40 pounds unassisted. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
