Delta Waterfowl Announces Key Promotions to Leadership Team

Strategic moves by The Duck Hunters Organization will help advance its mission to produce ducks and secure the future of waterfowl hunting in North America

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — Delta Waterfowl has promoted three members of its staff to executive-level positions, advancing on the organization’s mission to produce ducks and defend waterfowl hunting throughout North America.

“Thanks to the incredible dedication of our members, volunteers, donors and staff, The Duck Hunters Organization has emerged from a challenging year in better shape than anyone could have imagined,” said Dr. Scott Petrie, CEO of Delta Waterfowl. “Even in economic crisis, duck hunters stepped up and clearly demonstrated that they value waterfowl conservation — that they value Delta Waterfowl.”

Not only have all Delta Waterfowl programs remained fully operational during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the organization is in position to do even more for ducks and duck hunters. As part of this effort, Delta has promoted key individuals to newly expanded roles.

The moves include:

  • Promotion of Jason Tharpe from chief operating officer to chief development officer
  • Promotion of Joel Brice from vice president of waterfowl and hunter recruitment programs to chief conservation officer
  • Promotion of Becky Sicble from human resources manager to vice president of operations

Other members of Delta’s leadership team include Dr. Frank Rohwer, president and chief scientist; Tim Beckler, vice president of finance; and John Devney, senior vice president of policy.

The promotion of Jason Tharpe is noteworthy given Delta’s continued expansion in the development realm and the positive impacts it has had for Delta’s duck production, HunteR3, habitat conservation and research programs. A lifelong waterfowler, Tharpe joined the Delta Waterfowl staff in 2002 as one of its original regional directors — a period of transition in which Delta shifted from an being primarily a scientific research institution to The Duck Hunters Organization, committed to the future of ducks and duck hunting through programmatic delivery and policy efforts.

“Allowing Jason Tharpe to focus his incredible talents and knowledge on Delta’s three fundraising areas — development, local chapter events and membership — is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time,” Petrie said. “With the leadership team we have in place and the opportunities ahead of us, we see a bright future. It’s a result of the dedication of everyone involved with Delta, including the board of directors, our best-of-the-best leaders and staff, thousands of devoted and innovative volunteers, and all the donors and members who stuck with us through the uncertain last year. Now we’re entering an unprecedented era of opportunity to advance The Duck Hunters Organization’s duck production and HunteR3 missions.”
